Where every picture on this site comes from: the 27 images that carry a credit, with who made them, the source, and the terms they are used under.
The site draws on two kinds of imagery. The history pages use public domain, CC0, and Creative Commons material from museum and archive collections. The trip-planning pages use licensed stock photography, plus a little openly licensed material where it was the honest match.
Creative Commons material asks to be credited, so it is credited here in full, with a link to the source and the licence. The licensed stock obliges no public credit, so it is covered by the general note further down rather than photo by photo. Nothing on the site is non-commercial or no-derivatives licensed, and none of it was taken from another St. Maarten website.
A note on dates. The camera reached this island late, so several historical photographs are the oldest good image of a much older subject, and a few are undated. Where a photograph postdates the era or the moment it illustrates, the caption on the page says so.
If you hold rights to something here and want it corrected or removed, please get in touch.
