The story

The ruin on the hill behind the palms was Mullet Bay Resort, once the biggest hotel on the island, wrecked by Hurricane Luis in 1995 and never rebuilt. The golf course beside it is still the island's only one. The beach outlived all of it, and it's where St. Martiners themselves go on a Sunday, which is the best endorsement a beach can get.

Common questions

Quick fact

Is Mullet Bay good for swimming?

Usually, yes. Mullet Bay's sheltered crescent gives calm, clear water most of the year, with soft sand underfoot. In winter, north swells can bring shore break and undertow, and there's no lifeguard, so check conditions before swimming with children.

Quick fact

Does Mullet Bay Beach have facilities?

Basics only. Chair and umbrella rentals plus a snack and drinks vendor operate most days, but there are no restrooms or showers. Palms provide natural shade at the ends of the beach. Come prepared and take everything back out with you.
